whatsapp is my favorite of the messenger clients all you need to knwo is the other persons phone number no special pins or user names, closest thing that i can think of to an SMS but it uses Data so there is not international charges

of course the other person also needs to have whatsapp, but its cross platform on blackberry, android and iphone

TextNow is good because it is free and it gives you a real phone number for people to text you on. I do have some issues with it's reliability, and that messages disappear from the history. WhatsApp is good for texting other people who have that app, and it has additional features not available in TextNow (such as easy picture messaging)

Use it almost 50 + times a day to text family in Canada.
Can do:
- Group texts
- Send MMS (pics and videos <- up to 40 seconds clips)
- Audio Note
- Share contact Info
- Share location
-Forward SMS/MMS within the app to other whatsapp users.

Been using it for as long as i can remember, never a crash, never a connection issue.
