I have family and friends abroad that I want to keep in touch with. Can you call any Skype computer from you Skype iPhone app? Can you call another iPhone in a different country that has the Skpye app installed for free?

Are there any other apps that can do this? Free ones are preferred. Can you ise Google chat or Tango (heard abou this today)?

I've done calls to different countries with skype, but have found the video to be problematic. This could be due to calling MENA and eastern European countries, and probably has to do more with the destination connection speed than anything else.

Facetime over wifi?

Skype. Works fine. I talked to a family member in the Marines in Iraq with no problems a number of times. As long as they have a good ISP, it should be no problem for you, as well.

I have friends in England (UK), Germany, and Israel. So far we've found that for audio AND video quality, using Facetime over wifi is the best.
But without wifi, but with a good 3G connection we'll use Skype.

There are a few other apps out there we've tried, but they didn't really measure up to the quality of these two.
