I am a relative newcomer to the windows world of things.Is there a comparable app in windows for Time Machine as well as Carbon Copy Cloner that you guys have used?
 
I use Redo, you can also back it up with winclone which runs in OSX.
both are good Redo you have to put on a disc or usb its a unix app

Win 7 has a free backup and also system imaging utility and both work pretty darn well. The system image utility can be used along with a win 7 install ( or recovery ) disk to get you back from an unbootable system. The backup utility is maybe somewhat similar to time machine.

So probably no reason to pay for something since the free built in stuff works well.

I personally also use Norton Ghost 15 as an extra level of backup but that is perhaps above and beyond what is necessary for most people.
