I know, people have asked about wireless chargers on here, but I'm at the point where I want to ditch having to take ANY cables or pads when I go to hotels\airlines. I carry a small battery pack now for recharging on flights without plugs... but I now want to go a step further and find a battery pack that also has Qi charging built in for my iPhone X....

I found this one at Walmart, but it seems a no name brand, and I'm skeptical about it being such:

https://www.walmart.com/ip/Honeycomb-Wireless-Charger-with-7500mAh-Battery/142888975

I'm curious as to if anyone here has any experience with wireless chargers built into a battery pack, and if so, what works well\not so well?

Thanks as always!

Edit: I see a ton: https://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_...portable+wireless+c,aps,319&crid=B9GCHPCTFFPT

Does anyone have any recommendations or personal experiences with ones using them with iPhone X?

I think the practicality would be a problem in a moving situation.

Have you considered a fast charger? I got the Morphie USB-C powerstation XXL because I can get about 70% charge in about 30~40 min of charging. It would take a lot longer to get a usable charge with apples 7.5 wireless “fast” charging.

Different strokes...

It would be nice to have no cables but I find having a quickly charged phone more practical than ditching the wires all together.

Yeah I definitely see both sides of the coin. For me, the motivating factor of the power charger\Qi combo is for hotel rooms. My biggest annoyance is getting to a hotel room and having to move the bed or night stand to find a plug to plug into in the middle of the night. Having a power pack where I could just set on the night stand and then set the phone onto would be great.

The hold back factors for me is the size\power factor. To charge an iPhone X a 5000 mah would basically charge it once, maybe 1.5x .... whereas a 10,000mah would charge it 2-3 times. If I couldn't get 3+ charges each time, it'd be pointless, because every time I used it I'd have to recharge the pad... which if I'm going to do that, why not just re-charge the phone with the cable?

I have corded solutions, and they work for most uses, it's really just the hotel night stands that make me seek out the wireless pack option.

If anyone has any experience with these, please chime in :)

I was doing a little research on this today, and I can't find a way to replicate your findings. Apple's fast charging is only enabled when using a 29W or higher Apple-branded USB-C charger, combined with a Apple USB-C to Lightning charge cable. No other solution will supposedly enable the fast charging any faster than a 2.1A output on an iPad charger with a standard USB>Lightning cable would. And even so, Apple claims fast charge is 50% in about 30 minutes, which your claims would nearly increase their stated fast charge be upwards of 30-50%... doesn't add up.

I'm curious what model you're using, I'd love to check the specs and do the math on how it's happening if even possible to come close to the times you say.

But really, I'd prefer one of the battery packs with the wireless charging built in so when I get to a hotel I can just plop it on the desk or night stand and then plop the phone on it.

I think you are confusing specs or maybe I miscommunicated.

There is USB Fast charging and there is Qi Fast charging.

1. You can fast charge with the 29 watt USB-C port of the Apple 29 was USB-C charger
2. You can Fast Charge off the 30 watt USB-C port of the Morphie USB-C powerstation XXL
• you can not fast charge off the standard USB port on the Morphie USB-C powerstation XXL
3. You can Fast charge off Qi chargers that are 7.5 watt but only the ones approved by apple.

Personally the whole Qi spec seems to be total BS on Apple's part If they were really Qi compliant you shouldn't have to buy the apple approved ones. For fast charging you need the USB- C lighting cable. (apple certified obviously LOL)

The mophie powerstation USB-C XXL high-capacity universal battery delivers enough power to charge your USB-C MacBook Pro as well as your iPhone and iPad. This advanced 19,500mAh battery provides rapid charging rates up to 30W, so you can fast charge two power-hungry devices at once. Finished with a durable fabric wrap, the powerstation feels comfortable in your hand and stays protected while you travel.

Wish the mophie usb c xxl had a qi charger on top.

And FYI you don’t have to buy an Apple approved Qi charger. Just if you want the 7.5 instead of 5.0 which makes little to no noticeable difference. But I have 5 brands of Qi chargers from $7 to $60 and all work fine.

I have heard mixed messages about success with the fast charging Qi Chargers. Only the ones sold in apple stores are sure to work.

Correct. AFAIK right now the 7.5w “fast charging” models are just the Belkin from Apple and the Mophie from Apple. However ANY Qi charger works fine at 5w.

Now you got me thinking about this. Have you actually experienced fast charging using the mophie xxl usb c and the Apple usb c to lightning cable? Kinda interested now seeing the reviews but none of the reviews say it supports the iPhone X fast charge.

Fast charging on the iPhone 8 / X requires
  1. USB-C to thunderbolt cable
  2. Apple 29W, 61W, or 87W USB-C Power Adapter OR
  3. A comparable third-party USB-C power adapter that supports USB Power Delivery (USB-PD)
Citation: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT208137

The Mophie powerstation USB-C XXL supports 30W USB-PD fast charging

Citation: http://www.mophie.com/shop/usbc-devices/powerstation-USBC-XXL?a92=12

The iPhone 8/X don't have a lot of indications when fast charging is occurring... I believe the battery has to be below 60% in order to initiate fast charging. I can verity when I plug my Apple USB-C -> Lightning cable into Apples 29W USB-C charger it dings twice. The iPad charger only dings once.

When I plug my Apple USB-C -> Lightning cable into the Mophie powerstation USB-C XXL 's USB-C port and the battery has been sufficiently depleted the iPhone will ding twice.

I know i'm only a stranger on the internet but i hope that satisfies your questions.

Wow. That was the best response I’ve gotten from someone on here in years. I actually appreciate it.

I tried using my 2017 MBP charger and lightning cable and got the double chime. I’d never noticed it before until you mentioned it. Mostly because I don’t usually have the audio on, just vibrate. You taught me something new.

Now I’m excited. Going to the Apple store today to pick up the mophie usb c xxl pack. Not wireless but at the same time the point you made about fast charging > wireless charging is absolutely spot on.

Thanks for being helpful here. I really appreciate it!

To address the one other issue you had, I typically charge once the battery has gone into the red. (20%) and 30 min gets me back to about 70% so yes you are correct that’s about a 50% additional charge. IMO 70% is good enough to hit the road again. Yeah to completely top off an iPhone, you need just shy of an hour.

Cool. I’m excited. Going to the Apple store at 10. Will report my personal experience with the charger. :)

They literally just announce a new product in the last few hours. The Powerstation AC it's only marginal larger though

Nice. But the usb version is thick enough this one is even thicker and for $50 more to have a plug that I’d never use? Nope. My mbp uses usb c to charge so having the plug does nothing to help. :)
