New to this community and I may be in the wrong area but throw some good web design books and links at me ( and redirect if possible ) . Im trying to learn how to build from scratch, embed, etc. Thanks.

Welcome! Glad to have you. Web design is a multi-language / script environment. My best recommendation would be two books by Jon Duckett. Start with HTML & CSS for the website structure. Follow up with Javascript & JQuery to make your site come alive, although we can do a bunch of stuff with HTML5 and CSS3 now.
 
Here are some links that I find very indispensible that have helped me a great deal. The bookapart book series provides a very good introduction to stuff and the books are fairly short(150 pages). O'Reilly books are a bit "techier" and more expensive, though the head first series is supposed to be rather "brain friendly", haven't ready any books from that series though.
