Best Brands for External Displays?

I'm ready to pull the trigger on a new 15" MBP, and I'm considering getting an external display to pair with it. I'm not quite sure yet what I need or want in the way of size and resolution, but in general, which brands sell the best (and most budget friendly) external displays?
