best buy backordered?

I placed an order online through bestbuy.com over the weekend for a base 13" since none of my local best buys had any in stock.. long story short I was told it would come in this week between the 4th-5th but received an email this morning saying they are backordered.. There doesn't seem to be any sign of them being out of stock either..

Just wondering if anyone else is in the same boat, itching for their fix, and how long I should expect to be waiting for?

I did the same thing as you. I ordered mine on Saturday. They said that I should be getting one between 3-6 August. But I got an email the same day saying it has been backordered. I called the best buy customer care today and they said that I will be getting mine on 9th August.

You may want to call the best buy customer care with your order number and see if they have any updates.

Thanks Jim, I gave it a shot but still no luck as the status is still backordered. According the to customer care rep 'the system is showing them coming in the 22nd' ..3 weeks!? I find that hard to believe for some reason. Keep me updated if you don't mind.

OK I will. Call them again tomorrow. Their estimates change frequently. When I called them on Sunday, they said that I will have to wait for 3 weeks!
 
Why don't you order from apple then... It's not 2-3 weeks back order online.
 
I ordered the 13 inch with the 256 GB hard drive from Best Buy when I saw the $100 off. Then I got the notice that it was backordered. Looking for the 13 inch one I wanted, I couldn't find it so I got the 11 inch 128 GB model instead.

I was worried about the screen real estate, but the implementation of the full screen is so good, that the screen is quite acceptable. Speed and responsiveness is amazing. Perhaps at some point I'll upgrade the hard drive. Or, maybe when the 13 is available I'll get it later. Couldn't wait. This one was quite a bit cheaper.

I've had a lot of notebooks, netbooks and tablets over the years. This MBA is really sweet and very responsive.
 
i strongly suggest walking to a best buy store whenever you get the chance.
that's what i did and got the base 13 inch MBA i5 discounted for $1234.00
the previous model is selling for $1089 as well.

what i found out is that the delivery on the stores are quite unpredictable. it's not every tuesday, it's when there's an available units. They might have stocks tomorrow for all we know.

Give your local best buy a call first before driving over there:)

Hey just wanted to give you an update.

Well my best buy order was still on backorder - and they did not know when it will be fulfilled. However I called my local best buy store today morning and fortunately they had the new MBAs in stock today. So I cancelled my online order and picked one from Best buy today!

Congrats! When I went to get my MBA at Best Buy the other day, the only one they had in stock was the 11" base model (which I definitely did not want). We have two Best Buy stores locally and neither of them had the 128GB 11" that I wanted, so they checked other stores further out. A store that was about 1 1/2 hours away had one, so they held it for me and I drove there to get it! LOL, I know I wasted about $20 in gas, but at least Best Buy had it on sale for $60 off MSRP.

Good timing, the mac gods must have been in a good mood today. :apple:
 
The most important thing to remember is that Best Buy only gets what Apple ships to them. It's only natural for Apple to short best buy when supplies are tight. Apple is going to keep all they need, and then ship some to best buy.

The last thing Apple wants is to run out when sharing with a reseller. It's only natural. I also know it's a fact that Best Buy receives no advance notice from Apple. Therefore if any employee gives you a date, they're just guessing.

:) I completely understand... congrats!! I was waiting to buy this mac from such a long time... I could not wait any more...

The funny thing is that MBA 13 256GB i5 model in best buy is on sale with $100 off (where as Apple is only giving $50 off and that too only as a student discount). I didn't understand why they had to put a sale on a new item which is already selling like hot cakes...??

Agreed. You can't blame Apple for wanting to be the main guy in town having ample stock (if places like BB are OOS, it gives potential buyers a sense of urgency while looking for one). Then if said buyer goes to an Apple store to purchase their new MBA, Apple looks to make even more money on potential accessory sales. Win-win.

Yup, same here. Customer care told me again that they wouldn't be back in stock until the 25th. I wouldn't call the best buy I'm getting it from exactly 'local' but I'm going to pick it up today! It was literally the last one in stock, a base 13" just like I ordered.


This might be the wrong place to ask but since this is my first Mac ever, is there anything I should know before syncing my
iPhone? I'm just worried about losing my contacts, photos, etc.. Thanks!

I don't know about it. I haven't synced my iPhone with my MBA yet. I think one needs to copy/paste the iTunes folder from their old computer to the new one (to get their music and movies). I think for contacts, settings, photos, etc., you can back it up on the new computer directly (there is an option to backup the iPhone in iTunes). But I am not sure about it. You might want to post this question in another thread or Google it.
