Just went up there and reserved 32GB Black for pickup at 10:00 a.m. Friday.;)

Stopped by the local BB yesterday (15th) & put my order in for a Black 32GB, it seems that I was the first person to come in and reserve one.

The AT&T rep said it was probably due to the fact that there is an Apple store just a couple of miles down the road.

Hopefully I won't have to deal with much of a crowd Friday morning.

Yay!

Hmmm... wait a minute. So we're able to go to Best Buy, pre-order one, and it will be guaranteed to be there Friday for us? If so, what are the steps to do so? And why wouldn't we want to do this instead of going to Apple/AT&T?

Just Walk in any Best Buy, and pre-order... + Accidental Coverage if you want.....

Wow I walked into a Best Buy Mobile about and hour ago and pre-ordered an iPhone 3G 16GB Black and am scheduled to pick it up 9:00a.m on Friday.

Amazing. I was the 11th person to pre-order and will be the 1st to pick it up.

Can't wait.

Should be no different than pre-ordering at ATT, but you can't do that anymore. For Apple, you're basically counting on the store not running out before your turn in line.

Wasn't there something about having to buy a $50 gift card too?

So the only "catch" is that you have to put down $50 to reserve it? Heck, I'd pay for the entire thing today if it means they'll hold it for me and I don't have to spend all morning in line...

I think a lot of people are forgetting that Best Buy is going to get the iPhone 3G S the same day as Apple and AT&T because Best Buy didn't have the original iPhone and didn't get the iPhone 3G till later on. I'm definitely buying mine from Best Buy in July when I'm eligible for the standard pricing because of my reward zone account.

I have a question:

Are people at BestBuy/Wal-Mart idiots? (No offense to anybody that works there, this is an actual question)

Like, can I go into one of those stores, and say "Hey the no contract price is actually $799" and get one without a contract?

Because, I know that AT&T/Apple won't sell it without a contract just yet, and if I can sell my 3GS that I got for $399 on eBay for like $1000, then yes, I'll just buy a no-contract one for $799.

Doubt you would be able to do this at a Best Buy, perhaps at Wal-Mart.

What prices do Best Buy honor? Can they look in the AT&T system to see that I'm eligible for the discounted rates? How does that all work?

Wow, I'd totally forgotten that BB might have them...

If mine (pre-ordered through Apple and winging its way here from China as I type) doesn't show up early, I wonder if I could take it in on Friday and convince them to exchange the white one I pre-ordered for a black one... ;)

yeah the only real "catch" is the $50 deposit.

the guy I spoke to (who was very informed and knew what he was talking about) said that he has dealt with many people who want to upgrade a family member's line and then swap SIMs.

I went to Best Buy Mobile and they can look into AT&T's system.
