With the purchase of one of Apple's new iPads, announced yesterday, Best Buy is offering a free $25 Best Buy gift card that can be used towards future Best Buy purchases.

The $25 gift card is a small amount, but it's the best sale we've seen on the as-of-yet unreleased iPad, effectively dropping the price of the entry-level tablet to $305.

In its retail stores, Best Buy is also offering a $150 Best Buy gift card with the trade-in of any working iPad mini 2, mini 3, mini 4, iPad Air, or iPad Pro, with the total able to be put towards the price of the new iPad. Devices must be in working condition with no cracks to be eligible for trade-in.

Customers can't yet place an order for the new iPad from Best Buy, but can sign up for email notifications. The new iPad will go on sale at 8:01 a.m. Pacific Time on Friday, March 24.

Apple's new iPad is positioned as a low-cost 9.7-inch tablet designed to replace the iPad Air 2. It features an upgraded A9 processor, a brighter display, and a thicker iPad Air-style body.

Prices on the iPad start at $329 for the entry-level 32GB Wi-Fi only model. A 128GB model is available for $429, and Wi-Fi + Cellular models are available for an additional $130.

Feel like the $150 trade in is the more important thing here. Combined with the $25 that's about $150 to upgrade. Impulse territory for many of the people with aging 16gb storage that need an upgrade.

This just makes me more convinced that apple realized they messed up with the pro 9.7, so they priced this one so radically in an attempt to get the air 2 users to finally upgrade.

So I can trade in my iPad mini 2 and get a new A9 iPad for essentially $154? Not a bad deal

With double the storage in most cases!

Apple/Best buy are begging people to buy these. I feel like it's actually a step back though, the laminated display on the air 2 was a massive step forward, especially after the awful screen on the air. If the screen on this is comparable to that I'd rather buy a used/clearance air 2.

Well mine is already 32gb, but yeah I guess there are still a lot of ridiculous 16gb devices out there... haha

No joke. I just checked and My 32gb iPad mini 2 (in perfect condition) would get $94 from gazelle and $64 from Best Buy (without this deal).

Hmm to get rid of the mini 3 for $150 credit now or wait to see what debuts in the fall. I have an inkling we may finally see 3D Touch on iPads come later this year...

Wish there was a 64GB option though for the new iPad.

That is the key question. I'm also wanting to upgrade from my Air 2, but, I still want to see if we're going to see an OLED 10.5 inch iPad. I think I'm going to wait until April is through and if we don't see anything by then, then perhaps it will be September 2017.

This is definitely not an upgrade over the air 2. It's a thicker air 2 if anything. I'm keeping my air 2.

Mostly thinking about the processor and default storage. It's basically an Air (1) with 6s parts. Most people who want to upgrade from an air 2 at this point will be doing so because they're running out of storage or they feel their device has gotten slow.

I think for most people the iPad is a consumption device. For consumption, the screen is more important than the processor (which most don't care or know about). That non-laminated screen with no anti-glare seems like a step back for the sake of hitting that lower price point. I'd take an Air 2 over this 9.9 times out of 10.

Already bite the bullet and bought the Mini 4 with student discount at $379 plus tax.
This would make it harder to decide with the $25 gift card!

I think it's a great promotion. I'm gonna turn in my mini 2 for this. Total impulse buy wasn't planning on upgrading at all.

If they offered me $150 for my iPad Mini I'd do it. Even as a cellular model it's only worth around $30 as a trade-in. I wouldn't even pay that for it.

how is this any different than anything they've already been doing? They are re-hashing the bottom line to and recycling older parts here to keep an entry level product. Has a Pro Frame, 6S chip and ipad air cameras. This is not them saying "we screwed up with pricing in the past." It's about getting people that are holding onto older ipads to jump into the new(er) ios and switchers to make the jump into the echo system. It's pretty clear what they are trying to accomplish here. SERVICES

It's all about the Echo System.

It's all about the Echo System.

It would be absolutely perfect if Amazon could just tighten up security :p

This is very different from the past. We've never seen an iPad like this before. If it had been like the past they would have discounted the pro 9.7 heavily. Seems to me like people are holding on to these things longer than apple would like and now they're desperate for any kind of sales figures to show at the next quarter. Investors didn't seem to happy with the "were selling less but we increased the price on each one so we're kinda making the same....", now they're going the opposite approach.

If they offered this on the "new" Mini IPad I'd jump on it. The lack of the laminated screen on the 9.7 inch is a no-go for me.
