Following in the footsteps of Walmart, Best Buy this week detailed its plans for the Black Friday shopping holiday and its schedule looks a lot like other retailers. In terms of sales, Best Buy has the expected list of TVs, appliances, video games, computers, streaming devices, and even some all-time low prices on MacBook Air notebooks.

I so hate this move by retailers where you have to be a member (My Best Buy Plus, My Best Buy Total, Walmart+) to get their sale prices.

I wish you would stop posting these. It’s not a sale, its membership deals.

We need journalistic integrity. Not a news site that works against its readers to share in profits of a marketing scheme.

I hate having to become a member anywhere. It basically means you have to pay even if you don't buy anything. So the cheap psycho trick will make people buy stuff just to recover the membership fee.

If you aren't sure you are going to buy anything, why would you need to pay for a membership? Most places, including Best Buy, will show you the member discounted price without having to become a member. You can know in advance whether or not the membership plan is worth the price. Sometimes the additional member savings from just one purchase will more than cover the cost of the membership for the year.

Hilarious. I had a Denon AVR receiver in my Best Buy cart for a week. I watched it go from being on sale last week to $499 then popped up to $799 now today it’s on Black Friday special for $599. I’ll wait a few more weeks. Probably should have bought it last week ha.

It's stupid. They think they're being cute by 'locking people in', but most people are going to sign up for one of these at most, so they're actually just turning customers away. Especially BB. I can get all the same stuff at Costco, Amazon, or Walmart, plus other stuff too. Why would I sign up for BB+?

Meanwhile all these bland deals are bettered elsewhere, which of course BB will price match for any Joe who walks through the door.

As to MacRumors, I'm not going to salt them from listing a major retailer's BF deals, but if they were being honest, rather than just affiliate link whoring, they'd call out that basically every deal here can be had elsewhere, usually with no extra hassle.

Bought a 12.9” Pro on the 16th and it’s $100 off today, chatted with them and they refunded me the difference!

Thank you for your post. I do think that by distributing such „news“, MR supports these ridiculous schemes. I wish for a filter I can apply to hide all posts containing BestBuy, Amazon, etc.

That’s expected. Otherwise, you could just return it and buy it again at the lower price. Makes no sense to make you go through that whole ordeal.

Been going to best buy for years, and under ths old way you get a free membership and then point added up for everything you bought, not a paid membership. I was near elite status before they switched over, and then it became the only way to get points on purchases was by using a Best Buy Credit card for the purchase, which i never had. The membership thing is a total scam, i hate it, they should be gld i com into their brink & mortar stores and not just stay home and use amazon. With they exiting Physical media in 2024 that gives me one less reason ever do into BB. Like Costco, now you MUST be a member and show a card to JUst buy $1.50 Hotdog and Drink at the outside the stores snack bar, Ridiculous!

Underrated comment. A quick scroll through the front page and a quick count shows about 75% of the front page is ads disguised as a story or straight up affiliate links.

MR front page is trash anymore.

I don't think there’s much "disguising" going on as it seems pretty clear from the titles which posts are promoting retailer products or sales. MR also states within the various articles that they are "affiliate partners" with the retailer(s) mentioned e.g., "Note: MacRumors is an affiliate partner with [retailer]]. When you click a link and make a purchase, we may receive a small payment, which helps us keep the site running."

These sorts of posts are more common this time of year due to holiday shopping, Black Friday, Cyber Monday, etc. but if someone isn't interested in reading about "sales" or "discounts", they don't have to read those articles.

Looks like Best Buy has a deal with macrumors.com because the "best deals" are usually the ones Best Buy is having even if there are other better deals at other places, like B&H Photo, etc.
