I went down to Best Buy and got my new 16gb Iphone 4 with no issue at all. Better than that I was able to score it for only $199 rather than the $399 early upgrade price I thought I was suppose to pay.

Thank you Best Buy for saving me $200!

Who knows maybe I was really eligible for the upgrade price.

Perhaps AT&T bumped up your upgrade date. They've been doing it for everyone else it seams.

I'd say its more likely that then BB screwing up.

how did this happen

I upgraded to the 3gs in January and was eligible for a full upgrade on 09/2011, but was eligible for a early upgrade. My monthly bill is well over $100 w/ a family plan so my upgrades are expedited.

The guy just fudged up on the price. All I can say.

No way, I checked to make sure on Apple.com this morning and my price was $399.

This happened to me in an apple store during the 3G launch. The price came up and I said "Are you sure that's not a mistake" and the girl said "nope" and I walked out with the upgrade price rather than the early upgrade price. I figured it was because the system was so screwed up and flooded with activations. I never got charged the extra or anything, so its possible.

I know people who recently (2-3 months ago) used their upgrade eligibility to get new 3G ($99 phones) because lost/stolen and are eligible and getting the new 4.

P.S. Learn how to title a thread and not be a sensationalist.
