I am planning on getting a 2021 MPB and went to Best Buy to check out the screen sizes. I know what specs I want but the screen size is the final box I need to Check off.

I went yesterday and today (i live very close) and each time the 16” base model was much warmer to the touch on both the bottom and the palm areas then the 14”. The 14” was cool all over. It was not what i expected after hearing about the better thermals of the 16”.

I’m not sure what to make of this but it was a notI able difference.

You'd have to check the Activity Monitors to get some idea, but given that the machines had no doubt been doing different things, with different processes still running, it's not all that surprising.

I would normally agree however when u see the reviews most speak about not getting any thermal issues until the machines were pushed hard. Like video rendering and the like. Nothing going on like that with these two systems.
Never judge any floor model on anything.
So weight, screen, keyboard can't be checked. Sorry. I don't buy that.

If it was me personally, I wouldn't be concerned about that. My 2019 15" base model gets HOT but to me that just means it's working good. It just means it's got good "horsepower" and I'm using it to the max. I don't want to treat my MacBook Pro like a fine piece of jewelry. Cosmetically I treat it as nicely as possible by using sleeves etc, but I like using the internal performance to accomplish tasks no holds barred

Sigh. Obviously you can check those things. But anything related to performance I wouldn’t. People abuse them and treat them pretty rough.

But you do you. Based on your experience I’d say go with the 14”. The 16” will cook you.

When they get a memory leak or something else isn't working well, they can get a little warm just sitting there. Normally, when operating correctly, they only get warm under a fair amount of load.
