I will soon be getting my 15inch Touch Bar MacBook Pro and was wondering which cable would be best, and fastest, to migrate a mid-2012 15 MacBook w/retina display? Would it be a Thunderbolt 3 to Thunderbolt 2 cable because the 2012 wouldn't have Thunderbolt 3?

Maybe I would just get the USB-C to Multi-Port adaptor and then use an HDMI cable? Or would Thunderbolt 3 to 2 be faster? http://www.apple.com/shop/product/MJ1K2AM/A/usb-c-digital-av-multiport-adapter
No... that won't work.

The absolute fastest would be to use Apple's USB-C (TB3) to Thunderbolt 2 adaptor, then run a Thunderbolt 2 cable from that to the rMBP. But unless you just need those cables anyway, that will be a costly setup just to use once for data transfer.

What would be fairly fast is just backup your existing Mac using Time Machine to a USB3 external drive then use a USB-C adaptor (I got two for $7.99 on Amazon) attached to that to connect to the new MacBook Pro for the import using setup assistant.
