What card reader for a M2 MacBook Air (2022) do you recommend? Trying to get images from a Leica D-Lux 8 camera that I’ve ordered.

I do not own that exact model, but some thoughts:
While the camera uses up to UHS-II SDXC cards as storage medium, it also features a USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-C port.
So I'd simply connect it via a USB-C cable.
Then use the pre-installed application 'Image Capture' to transfer your photos.
Btw, the camera can also be charged via USB at a maximum of 1A at 5V if connected to a suitable host (charger).

For an external card reader, I am very pleased with the brand 'uni':

There are so many USB-based card readers, it's all-but impossible to find "the best" one.

Just get one with the features you need.

I think one requirement that would make things easier is that any of your "final candidates" have a USBc port.
