So I am going to be commuting to college requiring me to carry my rMBP in my backpack with three extremely heavy textbooks. My biggest fear is that since the new screen is more vulnerable, the pressure of the books will cause it to crack. So what would be the best case for helping keep the pressure of the screen? I was leaning towards getting a Speck case but am open to other recommendations.

Get the speck case but only put the top on: you mostly want to protect the top from scratches, but need to leave the bottom off for cooling. If you get the clear speck case, you can put a photo underneath, makes it easier to recognize at the airport scanners.

Be sure to get a backpack that covers the top corners as well. You'd be surprised how ofter the top corner of a backpack gets hit up against something (I broke the corner of my speck case that way, but at least the laptop was protected.) You might need to get a backpack that's advertised for 17" laptops.

Either that or get a padded sleeve to put into the padded backpack?

Northface surge with kuzy black case is what im using.
Works like a charm.
Cant find any speck cases yet.
