I'm looking for something that doesn't need to be stuck on and that I can easily remove, yet will still protect the back from scratches and bumps. I saw a thread on Slickdeals (http://slickdeals.net/forums/showthread.php?t=2802057) for $5 rubber cases, but I doubt they'll have reasonable quality.

Any other suggestions?

I actually bought that black "free" case on eBay for $7 free ship and it arrived today, great TPU case fits tightly and feels good in the hand. Using this til my portenzo shows up

I randomly found this company a few weeks ago via a google search. Since the iPad2 cases were so darn cheap, I took my chances and ordered 2 different ones for a total of a whopping $11.10. They arrived about 10 days later via airmail from HongKong. While I wouldn't say the quality is outstanding, they certainly get the job done. The only real complaint I have is that occasionally the edges can slip off, but that's a fairly rare occurrence. For $11 bucks I took a chance, and I'm pretty much pleased with them.

You get what you pay for. They are only $5 for a reason.

Yes. The reason is because don't have to pay for the $45 Apple Logo.

When it comes to the rubber/TPU cases then I've found the cheap ones you get on eBay/Chinese resell sites work just as good as a $40 Belkin. But when talking about portfolio style leather cases then the knockoffs are "good enough" but not "great". And considering you just invested $600 in an iPad then investing another few bucks shouldnt be a big deal.

Thanks for all the suggestions. Can anyone tell me the difference between TPU and silicone cases? Which do you prefer?

TPU is supposed to be an improved plastic, a little more rigid than silicon, and not sticky, tacky, or jello like. Kind of like shinier tupperware but a little more flexible. I've had a few TPU cases and most were not bad at all. adds a little grip and some bumper. I just for one for my ipad2 from handhelditems for like $ 6 or 7. not bad.

I prefer TPU to silicone, they're more smooth and feel better in the hand. Also seem to hold their form better

Ordered this yesterday. $16 shipped from the USA, less than half the cost of the xgear back shell. Not officially endorsed by apple, but i figure that between two versions of ipads, smart cover, apple BT KB and incase origami workstation, Steve and Jonny have enough of my money for now.

Like the black over the clear; slightly paranoid about having apple logo exposed on clear cases.

Honestly, they're just pieces of effing plastic on the backside of a device.
