Im about to buy another external hard drive to be used with my macbook, and maybe more later.
I love the LaCie D2's style, but they do have many problums. I like the G-drives but they cost a little to much per gig for me, id really like to keep it under $.65 a gig. and i love pro looking encluseres!
i have a few drives im looking at now
The OWC Mercury Elite-AL 500GB

The OWC Mercury Elite-AL Pro RAID FW800 500 GB

And the ministack V2 500GB

Do you think i should get something else?

I've been happy with my Western Digital MyBook Premium 320GB. Newegg has the 320GB for $159, the 400GB for $189, and the 500GB for $204. It is a nice black color, doesn't need a stand, blue capacity indicator on the front and most of all firewire so that I can boot OS X from it. Good luck. :)

Edit: Essential edition is USB only, Premium has USB+FW400 and Pro has USB+FW400+FW800.
