Best Choice for Upgrading 3Gs to iOS4? (Windows)

I'm a Windows 7 user... would you recommend using Redsnow to upgrade my 3GS 3.12 to iOS4 or would you suggest I wait until I can get my hands on a custom firmware and use PwnageTool? I think PwnageTool is how I upgraded my FW the last time. I just can't remember where I got my custom ipsw and I'm not sure how to find one for 4.0.

Thanks in advance for any help you can give me. I just finished reading all 12 pages of the flowchart thread and could not find an answer to my dilemma.

As far as I know, redsn0w does NOT work on iOS4.0 for the 3GS.

Your only option is to use pwnagetool (or sn0wbreeze, but sn0wbreeze is just stolen code from pwnagetool).
Pwnagetool will upgrade your 3gs to jailbroken 4.0 ONLY IF YOU ARE GOING FROM JAILBROKEN 3.1.2 (NOT JAILBROKEN BY SPIRIT) AND YOU HAVE THE OLD BOOTROM.

Ok, thank you for the heads up. I do have my iPhone on 3.12 and have the old bootrom. So I guess I just need to find a safe image to use to upgrade.

Remember that you need redsn0w version 0.9.4, NOT 0.9.5 b-x

And if I were you, I would just create a custom ipsw myself using pwnagetool. You need a mac to do it. (Or borrow a friend's mac )

Thanks Paul. I am JB'd at 3.1.2 and unlocked using my phone on TMO. I have no access to a Mac except at the Apple Store ;-) and I don't think they'd let me play long enough to do that. (haha) I am starting to think I may just wait a bit to do the whole upgrade... it seems more complicated than the last few times I've done it and I can't stand the thought of messing something up and being unable to use my phone. I'm an iPhone addict and the withdrawl would be ugly ;-)

Only option u have is find a custom ipsw created with pwnage online or use someones Mac to create one.

Judging from your signature, I would expect someone with so many Apple products to have a Mac. Haha.
