Interesting. Can you place a marker on a map, for example directly south, so it points in that direction?Don't know if this is what you're looking for, but I like an app named "Big Arrow". I use it for camping, place a "marker"/Waypoint at camp, and wander off. When I want to return, I can use the app (watch app too, independent of the phone) to follow the arrow to camp, or at least familiar surroundings. Check it out.

From the description, I couldn't tell. However I did see this note: "Only on iPhone, enabling the magnetometer allows the arrow to point in the correct direction when standing still."
I did see this "On Apple Watch, it also supports a compass mode that will point you towards north, using the Apple Watch (Series 2 or above) GPS functionality."
Anchor Pointer does the same thing. It gives you an arrow on the iPhone app that points you in the right direction (Super fun while on a bike to take new roads to your destination around town!) but on the watch app, it currently give you turn-by-turn directions.
There is a difference: Big Arrow has a compass mode, Anchor Pointer does not.Anchor Pointer does the same thing. I just found that the native Compass app (iPhone) has an app for the Apple Watch series 5 but not the series 4. This makes me think the S5 has a magnetometer but the S4 does not. After doing a little bit of research, it looks like, unlike the iPhone, Apple Watch does not have a built in “magnetometer” or compass-type sensor.
