Im from the usa and came to canada and will be here for 1-3 months. I brought my ipod touch 4th generation 32gb with me but thign is it broke and now i need another one. Someone gave me their ipod touch 3rd generation to use in place of it but i found out two big problems with it.

1. It has no camera.
2. Skype and other apps don't seem to work. I dont have a cell phone here in canada... just landline here. I liked my ipod touch 4th generation 32gb b/c as long as i had wifi... i could make phone calls with talkatone to canada and the usa. And of course it has a camera. So its like an iphone as long as you have wifi. You can even text if you download those programs though i didn't try.

What would be the best alternate ipod touch i can buy here in canada for 1-3 month short term use? Thus once im leaving here... i would either sell it back here in canada or sell it back in the usa when i use ebay or something like that. Basically i need it to have a camera to take pictures and be able to download apps and use skype on it with no problems as with my ipod touch 4th generation. And of course be able to use talkatone on it as i can use it as a phone with wifi.

I checked on apple canada and they have reburbished one for 220 dollars or so for the one i had. But i dont need 32gb... heck 8gb would be more than enough for me as i just want a camera and need to use skype and those other apps. My 32gb ipod touch... with everything i had in there... i didn't even hit 6gb and for me... my ipod touch was good enough.

Would getting an 8gb ipod touch 4th generation be the most cost effective for me since i just need it very short term 1-3 months? I read that 3rd generation and before doesnt have a camera so i wont bother with it. I read 5th generation is the newer one but the 16gb one doesnt have a camera? Then again i dont need a 5th or 6th generation b/c i only want something like my ipod touch 4th generation 32gb but dont want to pay 200 plus for it as i plan to sell it next month or the following months after that and get an iphone 4s when i get back to the usa.

How much should a used ipod 4th generation 8gb cost? It should have the same camera capabilities as the 32gb one right? Again i read about the 5th generation 16gb one not being able to take pictures correctly like the front/back camera and that is a huge negative.

I read about how many ppl buy an ipod touch and then sell it later when they go buy an iphone. This is what i will be doing. I of course would rather buy an iphone now and use it as an itouch but problem is shipping it from the usa to here in canada cost 100+ dollars in those custom fees.

Well im not 100 percent sure. I was going to buy another 4th generation one but it cost 200+ here in canada and i only need it for a short time and thus i will sell it later on when im back in the usa.

So if i can get a 4th generation for a low cost or get a 4th generation 8gb one that should be what i should do? its frustrating b/c im in canada now and i obviously would rather order an iphone 4s 16gb from virginmobile.com but i cannot do this.

Have you though about going in to an Apple store and do the out of warranty replacement? That might be your most cost effective option.

What is that? I never heard of it before. I didnt buy the warranty replacement many years ago.

It where you take a broken iPod (or iPad or iPhone) to an Apple store and it's not covered by warranty or AppleCare and they replace it for a fixed price with a refurbished unit. There are some limitations. Also it doesn't apply to units over a certain age. The iPod touch 4th generation is new enough qualify for an out of warranty replacement.
