I have a 5 that I was not planning on upgrading this year (2 year cycle- still in contract) but I just completely smashed the screen (home button is missing, and I'm using the assistive touch instead).

I'm on an AT&T family plan, and my dad insists on using a dumb phone, so he's obviously eligible for an upgrade. I'm looking for the best course of action money-wise.

Is it possible/worth it to have him upgrade to the 5s (add a data plan and then cancel said data plan when he goes back to his flip phone), sign a new 2-year contract, and then sell his phone? I could then use the money to buy a new 5 for $200+ without breaking contract and be eligible for the 6 next year?

Are there other options? I really just wanted to simply replace my 5 with another 5, but the cost of doing that just doesn't seem worth it.

Thanks!
