I'm buying a new MBP within the next few days. I'm getting the 15" i7 with the hi-res display and 7200RPM drive. With the student discount, plus tax, this comes to $2,339.70. I'll sell the iPod touch for $170 and the printer for $100, which brings it down to $2069.70. Is there a better deal than this? Is there any way to get cashback (bing?) from the apple store?

I think Microsoft cancelled Bing Cashback recently. Try Amazon but I'm not sure if they have BTO options like the high-res display. You could also try upgrading the HD yourself. It won't save that much less than $30 but it's better than nothing.

$2000. You don't get the iPod, but you do get the printer, so $1900 total. Upgrade the HD yourself. (I doubt you could get $170 for the iPod anyways).

As for cashback, you can get 1%.

the printer rebate comes with refurbs????

Yup:

Only Apple computers, as defined in this paragraph, and the printers identified in this paragraph qualify for this promotion. For purposes of this
promotion, “Apple computers” means and is limited to MacBook, iMac, MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, Mac Mini, and Mac Pro. Configure-to-order and refurbished versions of these Apple computers qualify for this promotion.

Assuming u r a student, u can apply for the student developer membership. with that, u get a nice discount on hardware. i7 + hi res is $1839. the membership has a $99 one time fee, but u still get the free printer, so that cancels out the fee. this might be the best deal around.

Student developers no longer get a discount. That deal was discontinued, if you have not already paid the $99.

For a student, and 95% of potential customers will not notice the difference between the i7 and i5. I'd invest the price difference and use that for a new purchase in 3-4 years. Speaking as one that used to always purchase top of the line. Nowadays a 2.4 high res is the best deal in my opinion.
