Best display for serious digital photography?

Now that LaCie is not making the Electron Blue CRT displays anymore, is there a consensus on the "best" display for digital photography?

Are any LCD displays up to par?

Check LaCie's site. It's possible they have gotten the colour accuracy of that CRT into an LCD it was replaced by.

If you've got a few thousand spare then this is maybe not the best, but it's pretty damned close.

How serious is serious?

I use a 30-inch HD ACD calibrated with a GretagMacbeth spectrometer and a Canon IP4000R printer with a custom ICC profile with spectacular results. I use Adobe RGB throughout my workflow as well.

Are you prepping for press? Do you do your own printing, or do you take it to a shop?

I do my own printing. Epson ink jet all the way...

Lacie and Nec make the same display, the 321 which is pretty good. If you can live with somewhat uneven (not really noticable) lighting, and not so great response time (you shouldn't in digital still photography). Then the Dell 2405FPW has very good color response. And its cheap.

Top end right now would be the LED powered NEC 2180WG.
