Best DVD writing hardware? suggestions

I have Toast 8 Titanium on my Macbook Pro, and it usually works pretty well for writing, but it never gets above a write speed of 3 or 4x, and sometimes has medium write errors (might be the dvd brand but nonetheless). Are there any external dvd writers anyone could suggest for my macbook pro just to write dvd's, i've see LaCie mobile, any other suggestions or would that be best?

I have a LaCie and the only consistently successful burns are at 4x.
