I need to encrypt my MacBook Pro for business purposes. I've been reading about Filevault and much that I have read has made me question whether that is the right approach for me. I need to encrypt both the drive and the backup.

I have a great deal of respect for the members of this forum... what would you recommend?

Do you need to do whole disc encryption?

If not I would recommend Truecrypt especially since it works cross platform. Should you need to open your encrypted volume on Windows or Linux you would be able to.

Otherwise I'm not sure of any full disc encryption for the Mac although there might be.

Truecrypt is a better solution than Filevault? Will it also encrypt my backup? Also... I'm a computer user, not a programmer... is it easy to use?

Go with the granddaddy of them all. PGP, my company uses PGP whole disk encryption.
