I am looking for an external display that can power my 12" MacBook with one cable. I basically want to plug one cable into my MacBook and that's it. I would also like the monitor to be less than $500, have a nice display (doesn't have to be 4K), and have ports built in (USB and possibly USB Type C). I've searched the forums endless but can't find anything that meets this criteria. Any recommendations?

The pickings right now are a little bit limited, and many of the USB-C monitors carry a premium over products with identical panels not using USB-C (which is strange.) Would you be also willing to consider a dock that has USB, DisplayPort, and charging capability, which would just be connected to the display and then you would connect the rMB to the dock? (But I am guessing you are looking for a 'cleaner' solution hence why you want the monitor to have all of this built in?)

Yes, I would be open to that. My biggest priority is a one cable solution so that the MacBook is charging whenever it's connected to the monitor.

go for the LG Ulterfine 4k. I originally got a Wider 4k connecte through HDMI and a dongle but then got the LG 1 cable solution. The screen in nice and 2017 MacBook works smooth with it

The Dell S2718D is the one on my shopping list, but I haven't purchased it yet. It meets your criteria.
