My Macbook optical is giving out so I thought I'd get a new external burner. Figured this was a good forum to ask with all the AppleTV folks ripping their DVDs.

I've heard that certain DVD-ROMs rip better than others. I've always had a few dvds that would rip and drop audio (more so now, could be because of the failing laser) so I thought I'd ask about a good quality ripper.

Back in the Day when I'd burn backups of GTA3 and etc for the PC I knew Lite-ONs were the best for getting the data off. Is Lite-ON still the number one in this area?

I have a SATA/IDE cable so I could get en internal and hook it up via USB if there is a rrrrreeeealll good internal drive out there, but if there's a virtually similar external USB drive I'd rather get that (a tad bit cleaner than a naked drive sitting on my desk).
