I ordered a 14" MBP M1 Pro upgraded model (10 core CPU/16 core GPU/ 16gb RAM/ 1TB SSD) for it's portability and I use it on the road/away from my house a lot. However, at the moment, I currently have a 2015 Retina MBP that's been my portable machine for years and I'll be upgrading that - can't wait, I'm sure the speed increase will be incredible. However, when I am home, I also have a 2017 27" 5k iMac 3.5ghz i5, 24gb RAM desktop that I've been loving but like everything else Intel related, it's just been showing its age and starting to slow down a bit, especially for the higher intensive tasks like 4k video editing.
So what I am THINKING in the next few months, once I get the new MBP with M1 Pro processor and upgraded GPU is to move my iMac as my family's "all around" computer and then use my new MBP along with a new external monitor/display for my workstation desk. I have a feeling that I won't be able to go back to "normal speed" once I see the new MBP M1 Pro (very excited if you can't tell). Do any of you guys have current recommendations for "all in one" setups for a MBP and external monitor and any docks that make external HDD storage easier for this type of setup?
Finally, I've also been looking at the possibility of 48" LG OLED C1/CX (same TV, just different year "versions") within this setup. I want to say that I do plan to hook up both my MBP as well as an Xbox Series X (and I've already been looking for a new TV for this), so I think this may be the perfect combination! I hate to have my MBP closed if running if Clamshell mode - haven't quite decided if I want to do this vs open as a second display somehow and maybe even continue using it's keyboard? But if I keep it closed, it'll be a shame to lose that high quality display for home use... but the idea of using an OLED with it seems to make that a nice compromise haha. Are any of you guys with the new MacBook Pros using this as a display? USBC to HDMI 2.1 I'm assuming - with 120hz refresh rate? Not quite sure how this would work, but excited to hear anything you guys have to say!
