What external monitors are the best in regards to resolution (matches Retina display) and color matching? This monitor will connect to an M1 iMac. Thanks!

Not simple question to answer but if you want to be exact regards to resolution, look for a display with 218 PPI or greater. This will likely be a 5K/6K display.

The best two displays are the two sold by Apple, but they are very expensive.

At 27”, the ideal display resolution is 5K, and there aren’t a lot of choices besides Apple’s. ASUS has a new 5K ProArt display that’s half the price of Apple’s, though.

Otherwise, LG, Samsung and others all sell 4K60 10-bit 27” displays which are excellent. They don’t perfectly match the ideal Retina display dpi, so if you want the very best possible, you might not want one. But they cost about 1/4 of what Apple charges for their 5K screen, so that’s what I use, and I’m happy with it.
