I need a drive for my Macbook. 1) I don't neccessarily need Firewire but I'll take it. 2) It needs to be compatible with OS X and Windows. 3) I don't need more than 500GB. 4) The smaller the better.

You can get a 320GB, 7200 rpm, FW and USV for under $100! I have your same MacBook (early Peryn '08) 2.4Ghz, upgraded to 4GB Corsair RAM, highly recommend it. Fast delivery and apple :apple: specialized store.

format the HD as fat32 to make it compatible with both OS's, but bear in mind, that it has a maximum of 4 GB per transfer (meaning a file larger than 4 GB won't transfer properly).

If you need it for larger files, you can buy a license for NTSF by Paragon which allows Macs to read Windows (NTSF) drives.

buy an enclosure then get whatever HDD you want. cheapest solution for the biggest HDD. plus it will be swappable, if you want to upgrade to a bigger external itll be considerably cheaper and if the drive dies, again its cheap and easy to replace.
