Hello

I have a lot of issues with dongles and such with my MacBook Pro. I have an external HDMI monitor that I use the Apple dongle for that also has a USB-C connection. When using this, anything I plug into the USB-C doesnt do anything. Ethernet, nothing. External HD, nothing.

So here is my setup and I am looking for opinions on the best plug and play easy setup.

MacBook Pro - 2 USB-C outputs (trying to keep things to one side)

External:
USB - C Ethernet adapter
Monitor HDMI or potentially USB-C down the road
External Hard Drive - USB-C

Can something do all that without trouble?

I am tired of having a million connections off both sides of the Mac.

Thanks

The USB-C port on the adapter is for power passthrough only. You want to reduce direct attach to MBP, you need USB or Thunderbolt dock. Lots of choices with lots of different port configurations at many different price points.

At my new Workplace, I now utilise a Dell XPS16 . . . it has two USB-C's on the left, and one USB-C on the right.

The right, I connect the power-cable.

The left, I have (the included) USB-C -> HDMI + USB-A wiggle-dongle.

I've attached a Dell P2715Q to the HDMI

So, I have a free USB-C port; and, I have a free USB-A port.

Personally, I have no idea if the XPS16's ports are USB4/TB/3.1(gen.x) . . . I just know that the connectors fit the ports.

With my M2 Studio, I rest-assured that my OWC 4-port TB hub works like I expected it to.

My Ethernet connectivity is extremely solid, and my WIFI is Ubiquity property-wide . . . I don't need Ether connects for my portables.

Unfortunately, I have no solid recommendations on how to keep such an un-tidy task as yours become tidy 🤷‍♂️
