Best .flv downloader/converter for iMovie 09

Does anyone have a good process or program to use for downloading a file from youtube and then converting it to a format for iMovie? I have found several free programs, but I have not been overly impressed. Also, it seems I have to have two programs: one to download and one to convert.

Lastly, is MPEG4 the correct format I should be using for iMovie? I have found that it works, but do not know if there is a better format out there.
