I'm looking to buy a graphics card for my G4 dual 500 with AGP 2x. Price issn't a big issue, I just don't really know all the available cards.

Thanks guys!

i recently installed the ATI 8500 card (64 meg) into my own 500x2. it's better than the stock card, but i haven't noticed anything life-changing.

i can run quake 3 a little better, and when recording in ProTools LE, instead of a big red block showing recording progress, it draws the waveform as it's being recorded.

but not everyone runs ProTools LE, eh?

oh, i ran XBench before and after.

before (i.e. OEM card):
Code:
	Quartz Graphics Test	65.84
		Line	64.32	1.64 Klines/sec [50% alpha]
		Rectangle	60.41	4.25 Krects/sec [50% alpha]
		Circle	65.55	1.51 Kcircles/sec [50% alpha]
		Bezier	70.50	766.09 beziers/sec [50% alpha]
		Text	68.41	1.15 Kchars/sec
	User Interface Test	70.13
		Elements	70.13	22.44 refresh/sec

after:
Code:
	Quartz Graphics Test	66.88
		Line	64.26	1.64 Klines/sec [50% alpha]
		Rectangle	60.32	4.24 Krects/sec [50% alpha]
		Circle	68.06	1.57 Kcircles/sec [50% alpha]
		Bezier	71.36	775.40 beziers/sec [50% alpha]
		Text	70.38	1.19 Kchars/sec
	User Interface Test	70.13
		Elements	70.13	22.44 refresh/sec

not much difference, eh? but maybe XBench doesn't stress video performance enough to make a measurable difference.
