When might it be?

What might it be?

Before WWDC.
A processor upgrade to Core2Duo, possibly with the X3000.

That's at least possible, it has become a joke waiting for it to update.

EDIT: Days Since Update 219 (Avg = 151)

Maybe the superdrive will become standard?
It's 2007! DVD writing drives should be standard in Apple's line-up.

Yeah i always thought the lack of superdrive in apple's lower end computers is a bit poor. How much extra would DVD burners be these days compared to combos?

No thanks. I don't need a DVD burner, at least not in every Mac I own, so I don't want to have to pay for it.

If they shipped it with every computer it would only be a minimal increase.
I'm not sure what sort of scale it would require but if they purchased them in higher quantities then the difference might be even lower.

I am predicting:
Low End Mac Mini
1.83Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo Processor
1GB Memory (2x512MB)
60GB hard drive
Intel GMA X3000 64MB
Combo Drive
$499.00

High End Mac Mini
2.0Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo Processor
1GB Memory (2x512MB)
80GB hard drive
Intel GMA X3000 64MB
8x SuperDrive (DVD+R DL/DVD±RW/CD-RW)
$699.00

the siurpeeman predicts...

my guess is we'll see new minis some time in may, around the time we'll also see new imacs (another guess). what we'll see will look a lot like the current macbook lineup. 1.83 and 2.0 ghz core 2 duos with 60/80 gb hard drives and a slightly revised form factor, something similar to the new airport router and apple tv. throw in 802.11n, and you have your "new" mini. sorry, no hdmi. what i'd love to see in a mini that won't ever happen? a mouse and keyboard.

I can live with these specs. The trouble is what specs will the Macbooks have?

It will bump the Macbooks from the present 1.83/2.0 lineup to a 2.0/2.16 lineup, and the Macbook Pros to a 2.33 and ....?

I would have thought that the minis were more likely to just get fhe equivalent C2D.
