Let's keep this to stuff we can grab off iTunes, please. Link directly to the song with the ITMS Link Maker so we can all enjoy. use the top line that contains the URL directly to the song. Suggestion: As you decide which is best, you should definitely throw up the iTunes Visualizer (full screen) to get you into the groove ;)

Okay, my pick. Temple of the Dog Reach Down. One of the best guitar solo's of all time in my humble opinion. According to drummer Matt Cameron, guitar player Mike McCready's headphone monitors flew off halfway through the recording of the solo, and he played the rest without being able to hear the backing track. Mike still considers this track to be his greatest achievement. Click here for some great info on Lollapalooza '92 including some (very small) Realplayer videos of Mike McCready, Stone Gossard, Chris Cornell, Eddie Vedder and the rest of Temple of the Dog / future Pearl Jam if you're interested.

If you have "Freebird" in your library then that should be everyone's answer. Ther is no better guitar solo than the one in Freebird.

Thats no opinion, thats fact.

They aren't by any means amazing talent, but the solos from "Night Shift/Stir It Up" and "I Feel Home" on O.A.R.'s first live CD, "Any Time Now", just sound great. The first features Junior Marvin from Bob Marley's band. Pretty sweet.

Daniel.

Stairway to Heaven. Slam dunk. Honorable mention goes to Hotel California

The OP asked for iTunes links. ;)

my current favorite is not in iTunes as it is from an ameteur.

La Villa Strangiato

About 2:30 to 4:30.

Lifeson at his best.
Are you referring to the Lifeson's solo on the live Rio album specifically or would it be equally as good live on Exit... Stage Left? It's album only to purchase on iTunes for Rio :( I never got to see Rush live back in the day. That would have been a show ;)

Totally agree with you on those as two of the greatest!

Well, this isn't a timeless classic or anything, but what the hell, I'm seein' them next week, and it rocks. So.

Dragonforce - Through The Fire And The Flames
iTunes
YouTube - just the solo from their video

the end from abbey road. -_____-
i wish they would just get it resolved and put the beatles onto itunes.

Metallica's One, why have one really talented guitarist when you can have 2 :)

Either that or Slash's solo at the end of Guns N' Roses - November Rain, awesome!
