Best Hard Drive for Early 2008

What's up guys? I need to upgrade my 200gb internal hard drive to a 500gb or more hard drive and was going to see what you guys recommend.

The computer is an Early 2008 Macbook Pro

What is more important, speed or size?
What is the smallest size you can get away with if you also had an external drive?
