Hey guys,

Here's my situation:

-I have a 17inch Powerbook 1.67 with 1.5 gb of ram
-I have two WD 120gb FW400 drives which hold my itunes library and sample library
-I just got a Presonus Firebox (fw recording interface)

What's the best strategy for adding an audio drive for the firebox recording. I'll already be running samples/synths off the WD FW drives, so I don't think adding a thrid drive for audio recording on the same bus would be a good thing.

Here's my options, as I see them:

-Buy a PCMCIA FW card adaptor and a new FW drive (this should run on a sep. bus from the Firebox and WD drives right?)

-Buy a PCMCIA SATA adaptor and a SATA Drive (very attractive as I can buy cheap SATA drives to use for backup.)

-Buy a FW800/400 drive and use it on the FW800 port on my Powerbook. Many problems have been reported with this setup, I would like to avoid it if possible

I'm most interested in the PCMCIA SATA option. Anyone running anything like this on their PB? Here's a link to a barefeets test: http://www.barefeats.com/hard54.html

I have one major question: does the cable from the cardbus adaptor to the SATA drive provide power as well as data? Or do I need some sort of power adaptor?

Thanks!
