iPod Best Headphones for the ipod

Im looking into buying new headphones for my ipod, after 4 pairs of the normal white headphones that come with it, I decided to change headphones, besides they have all sounded different everytime I bought new ones.

Im looking for headphones that will make my music sound loud without me having to put all the volume up as well as the acoustic feature. I mainly listen to classical music and would like to have the "live" sound of my music if thats possible in the headphones, also I noticed that with the generic headphones I have that if I put it all the way up the sound will often be distorted and wont sound as clear as if I had it lower.

So just wondering what you might suggest?


I have bought the in ear apple headphones but I didnt like the sound they produce so I just sold them, Im looking for something better than those.
 
Those are pretty pricey. Maybe look at shure's earbuds too. Basically anything with an enclosed design will sound better, though most don't like to admit it, the Bose Triport headphones sound pretty good to me, and are quite comfortable. Never bought a pair though, just from store trial.
 
Sennheiser are top notch and comfy, there is an enclosed pair for $60 in australia so should be about $40US

Yeah I got the Bose Tri-Ports...they are good...light, comfortable and sound great.

It seems to me like you're looking at in-ear stuff. Would you be interested in regular over the head headphones also?
 
yeah, Im looking for in ear headphones, I dont like those that you put over ur head, besides the good ones are usually those HUGE ones and I dont want to walk down the street with those.

what do you guys thing about those on the apple website, they're a lil pricey but the question is are they worth it?
 
I get the cheapest ones I can find that don't sound like the diaphragms are made of wax paper, because I have this habit of gesturing a lot when I talk, forgetting that I'm wearing earphones, and ripping wires out by the roots. :eek:
 
I got a pair of Sony EX 81s recently. They sound very good with bass that doesnt overwhelm the sound. Sound tonnes more clearer then the standard Sony's. Very good for the price. They are very comfy as well.

Only gripe is the silly cable system. Look them up in amazon, and they have a strange plastic wrap-over the ear which has very little purpose.

The Sony EX 71s are slightly cheaper, with a more simpler cable design, but I'm not sure how they compere with the 81s. People seems to swear by them tough.
 
For in-ears you should test The Plug, but if you really want good sound (for a fairly reasonable price) you must try Koss PortaPro, they are super light and have fantastic sound, and if you don't like the headband over your head you can adjust it to go behind your neck instead.

If you are serious about audiophile sound AND hearing conservation make sure you check out Sensaphonics at: http://www.sensaphonics.com/

They are the leading in-ear monitor provider for hundreds of musical artists [see their client list]. They also produce 9dB, 15dB, and 25dB ear plugs that retain the human ear's frequency response curve so that everything still sounds the same, just quieter.

Regarding their in-ear monitors though, they are a good chunk of change, about $650 I think. But, they are worth every penny and more! These are custom ear molds that fit snugly in your ear canal. If you don't live near Chicago, you'll have to go to an ENT to get "fitted" for the molds. The ENT then ships your custom molds to Sensaphonics. They fuse a dual driver system [one driver for low-end, the other acts as a midrange, top-end driver] around a silicon version of your molds along with a serious water-tight seal leading to a very durable 48" cable ending in a pro-audio level 1/8" male connector. Because the mold completely fits into your ear canal, you'll get 26dB reduction in the outside ambient noise level, allowing you to listen to the music significantly quieter without sacrificing any of the "musical experience." Tons of deep bass, clean smooth mid's, and a shimmering top-end.

Their site has links to many reviews, client lists, related products, they will even take Shure and Etymotic drivers and make custom molds for them. That route is much cheaper, but I'm tellin' ya, their ProPhonic SOFT 2x's are truly unbelievable.

And think about the ear plugs too! Especially if you live in an urban area that has high SPL ambient noise. Remember that unlike any other part of the human body, you can NEVER recover lost hearing. There simply is no regeneration.

i recomend any of the shure line for in ear headphones...

but honestly, do a search... we beat the headphone topic to death every other week around here...
 
I really like my Apple Earbud headphones. they sound good to me alot better than thos that come with the iPods. However, I never used the other brands that folks are talking about. I may just be missing out.
 
I got some Sony EX 71s, and they are great for me. I dont really see the point in Ultra High Quality Audiophile headphones, as you are still using MP3s! (unless your not, of course).

They sound good, fit in your middle ear (your ear canal) - cutting out a bit of outside noise. The other bonus is they come with a short lead which is the perfect size when using an iPod wired remote. You also get an extension lead should you choose not to use your remote, or if you are like 12ft tall.

iPodLounge has reviews of most of the top headphones iPod users use.
 
I needed some that were small to carry on an airplane, and had noise cancelling. I tried several models, most had terrible sound quality. I finally settled on Sennheiser PCX-250. Very happy.
 
I'll second (third, fourth?) all of the people in the thread that recommend the shure in-ear headphones. I've only used the e2c model, but they sound fantastic to me, and block out so much noise that you barely have to even turn the volume up on a noisy airplane to hear the music.

They're listed at $99 pretty much everywhere, but buy.com has had them for $60 shipped forever. Just search for e2c . They've also got a fine 30 day return policy (from shure itself, I'm sure there's something similar from buy.com), so buying them is pretty much no risk.
