So, I was wondering what you guys thought were the best applications for instant messaging.

This gets asked often and you can use MRoogle to search and find lots of opinions.

Most will tell you Adium is the way to go unless you need iSight... then iChat

I just use Adium and Skype, but I wish Adium had use of iSight.

I wanted to post the poll, though, just to get a nice count of what people use. :)

Adium, as it lets me combine all my accounts into one easily-customizable list. I rarely video chat, but when I do I switch to iChat (if chatting with another Mac user) or Skype (if chatting with a Windows user).

It depends on what I'm doing. If I'm video-chatting, I'll either use iChat or Skype, depending on which app the person to which I'm talking prefers.

For just normal IMing, I use Adium since it lets me log in to all my accounts at once.

I can only say iChat, I haven't given Adium a try simply because I am video chatting a lot, and the others I wouldn't care to spend all that much time with.

Adium, Microsoft Messenger and Skype.

I wish Apple would realise iChat is useless outside the USA. Everyone in the UK uses Live Messenger with a few using Skype.

Adium is the best one i tried so far. I used to use trillian on windows and i have to say that Adium is much better

It's exactly the same here is Canada, nobody uses AIM/iChat. Everyone here uses Live Messenger or Skype. iChat looks nice and all but, without MSN support it's completely useless outside of the USA.

I went with iChat because I don't have to connect with people on several different networks. I used AdiumX when I had a YIM buddy, but I made him get an AIM account so I could stick with iChat.
