I remember reading a while back that the best way to import VHS tapes into iMovie would be using iMovie 6 from iLife 6 due to it more natively handles 480p and 4:3 ratio. I can't seem to find that thread.

At the time, the iMac seemed underpowered to even handle that and I didn't have any hardware to do the import. I found a great deal on a Power Mac G5 and picked up a VHS player and an ADVC 110.

I think I'll do the importing on the G5 then transfer to my mini for any editing. Or should I just keep everything on the G5?

I think I will need to upgrade the HDD, it only has 2 40 GB HDDs and I don't think that'll be enough to record everything on there easily.
