My 2nd gen iPod mini needs a new battery. Are any of the replacement batteries on ebay better than any others? I saw 600, 650, 850, 900 and 950mAh ones.

Is higher better, or are they just exaggerating more?

I did see one seller with OEM Sanyo 600 mAh ones. They might be the best quality unless they are 2 or 3 year old NOS (new old stock), in which case they may already be half way to the grave.

Any recent experience?

Thanks - Greg

watch for thickness

Ok, i am somewhat knowledgeable on this, since i recently replaced the battery in my ipod mini and researched this beforehand. There are really just three sizes 500 mAh, 600 mAh, and 750 mAh. Anything more than 750 mAh and I would question the validity of the claim, since the 750 mAh battery is thicker than the original battery and getting it to fit inside is tight, but not impossible.

So, while an ipod mini battery might be marked as 800 or 900 mAh, i would be really surprised if it really was - in fact, i would avoid them because they probably wouldn't even fit inside the case.

I found a 750 mAh battery from ipodjuice.com and it fit great and they cover it for ten years - here is a link, which also there is a video to show how it is installed:

Also, do not ever pull of the label from the battery thinking that that might get the thing to fit it - my brother in law did that and the battery died two days later!

bye!

Thanks everyone. It hadn't occurred to me that they would make thicker batteries. That's good to know.

Laura123, i am about to order the same battery as u did for your Mini and hope it works.... I love my iPod mini very dearly and i still use it for podcasts only... anything to note?

thanks

Update: I bought an 850mAh battery from accstation on ebay (like this one http://cgi.ebay.ca/NEW-REPLACEMENT-...photoQQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp1742.m153.l1262).

They are one of the few that give the thickness which was one of the reasons I chose them. The battery was fine for thickness but seemed to be about a millimeter wider than the original one, and the wires were thicker too. But I got it to fit and it seems to be working fine.

Cheers - Greg
