Best jailbreak tool for iPhone/iPod?

I am thinking of jailbreaking my iPhone 3GS (Leaving my iPhone 4 untouched) but would like to know what you guys would suggest I use for the job?
I hear names like Redsn0w banded around and Jailbreakme, getting some headlines. But... I have no real experience other than once when I jailbroke my iPod Touch 2G using the tool from that hacker dude Geohotz.

So your suggestions are welcome.

What firmware version. But for most I like redsn0w tutorials Iclarified. Most question you ask are already answered via search/google.
