Would welcome any recommendations for a joystick that is both compatible and, over time, reliable for playing Elite Dangerous on a Mac.

Whilst there have been previous threads on the subject, some time has passed since the game was released and I'd greatly appreciate some tried and (flight) tested recommendations.

Many thanks in advance.

There's no right or wrong in this, since there's basically no upper end to the amount you could spend on a flight sim controller setup (which is what you need if you're going to play Elite on anything more than a console controller).

I've got some CH Products stuff - it's pretty much unchanged since the 1990s, but very durable and has a few features that are particularly useful in Elite. It has Mac drivers, if you're playing in MacOS, but the game is much better in Windows. One thing I'd definitely recommend is getting pedals, it makes a huge difference in Elite. I posted some control setups here: https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/elite-dangerous-tips.1837186/page-16#post-24979120

Don’t play Elite on macOS, you are at a massive disadvantage because powerful ship upgrades are not available to you.

Boot Camp is a different story.

Those are both very helpful replies, thank you.

I hadn't realised that the developer seems to have only paid lip service to their commitment to offer a Mac version.

As I don't want to run a Windows environment on my Mac or to get a PC, I'm now wondering whether I should buy an Xbox or a PS4 instead. As garnerx said, I could spend pretty much the same money just on a flight controller for my Mac, but then it seems I wouldn't be able to enjoy the game properly.

I want to revisit the title, which I enjoyed in my youth, but I'd prefer to enjoy the proper experience, so I'm not sure which way to go now.

More confused than when I started, but for the right reasons. Thanks again for the help.
