I plan on getting a Mac soon and i know that you don't need virus protection but I heard there still are some nasty viruses out there so what's the best program for it? thanks.

Sorry, but you heard wrong

No viruses
A very, very few trojans that require your admin password to install

Best virus protection?
Common sense, and safe downloading practices... nothing else needed

If you are concerned about passing Windows viruses on to your friends... use ClamXav

Best Mac Virus Protection: a savvy user.

Don't click unknown links, especially from e-mail. etc. You can pick up a Windows virus and pass it on to others.

While it's true that you're very unlikely to come across a mac virus, you should still consider anti virus software if you trade files with people on windows machines since you can unknowingly give them a virus.

There are a few different programs available, just do some research.
I use clam av, simply because it's free and easy to use.

I've never used any. There are a couple of trojans kicking about, like the hacked iWork 09 torrent, but that's about it. Viruses are non-existent, save an abortive proof of concept a few years back.
