I work in the TV news business and am looking to upgrade from a MacBook Air to a MacBook Pro. All I would use this for would be to edit a demo reel and keep clips. Right now, I have them stored on an external hard drive. The format for my clips is mp4. What would be the best MBP that won’t break the bank? I’m looking at editing either through iMovie or final cut. Again, it would not be for daily video editing. Just more of a convenience when having an updated portfolio handy.

Are you working with hires or proxy files?
If proxies then about any 13inch would do.. Get a usb-c external ssd for the storage and you are golden :)
Probably even your hires files are quite low bitrate so that would not be a problem either. It all depends :)

I believe they’re proxy files. They’re HD but they’re shrunken quite a bit. They’re air checks from the newscast so not raw files.
