you can try and find a deal but generally you're splitting coins by the end. It got especially frustrating because even with the student discount (back in the day) with tax it equaled within 20 bucks the price of 3rd part retailers with out tax and free shipping. There may be multiple players on the stage but apple is holding all the strings. Either way they're getting 2700+ out of your wallet.

The best you can do is find retailers that throw in some perks like combined discounts and freebees. If you really want to save some money you can always buy refurbed models for less. You'll also save money on the cheaper RAM for them.

I purchased mine directly from the Apple store only because of the discount I got through ADC for the system. My company does get a discount slightly better than the standard student discount, but even then its often cheaper with taxes to get it from a 3rd party online.

Nope, only Apple will allow you to use the student, business or ADC discounts.
