Let’s assume that you enter your destination before leaving the house and have no need to touch the screen while the car is moving. Which app is the best for reading with a quick glance? Street view (whatever) isn’t important, nor are landmark descriptions. Nor mass transit nor biking details.

I just want help driving from Point A to Point B. Turns, lanes, routing, speed limit, all at a glance - you get the idea.

Thanks

Waze > google > Apple. Though tbh all is fine now these days and Apple has gotten better.
Apple is even better if your area got the update with the stop lights and signs. Makes it tons easier to know where to turn in an unfamiliar area, especially when there are like three roads back to back to back.

Waze is still #1 in my opionion although I really like the vibrate notifications to my apple watch when for turns using Apple maps

Honestly that’s why I used Apple Maps at times. But i find the ETA and the routes they give was wrong (ETA) and longer route by time.

It’s Google Maps, Waze is owned by Google so you can use that too if you want.

If you want to avoid using Google then it’s tricky. At the moment I still feel Here Maps is better than Apple Maps at choosing routes and rerouting. The Here’s interface isn’t the best for saving and choosing favorite places, but you asked about the actual hands off driving experience, then Here is better than Apple Maps to me. Apple Maps just give terrible directions at times.

Waze gives real-time traffic info and speed traps.

All are good and as mentioned, try all 3.

I want to like Google Maps but the turn by turn volume is so low even when cranked up that I can’t hear what it’s saying. Waze and Apple Maps are loud and clear. I’ve tried reinstalling and even installing on a “setup as new” iPhone.

I think it depends upon where you are traveling. I've found some locations are better in Apple and some in Google. As someone said try them and see what you like best.
They are also all changing so what is great today maybe #2 tomorrow

I use Waze on the interstate for traffic and trooper warnings but hate the graphics in town.

I really like the Apple Watch taps that come with Maps and am anxiously awaiting an upgrade for Charlotte and the Carolinas.

I just replaced my 7 with a X so at least the screen will be a little bigger.

Oh, if you have the Apple Watch, then Maps takes another step up in utility. Getting from A to B, I always use Maps. If I need to be there as quickly as possible, I lean on Waze, but I’ve found recently that Apple and Waze choose similar “fastest” directions, recently. So, I’ll continue compare since I have my iPad and phone with me all the time.

Is there any map app that puts an emphasis on “keep moving”? :) I know several people that will go 5 to 10 miles out of their way IF they don’t have to spend a lot of time in slow moving traffic... even if going out of the way will take an additional 20 minutes!

I don’t use Google anything so I use Apple Maps and it works very well for me. I’ve done quite a few road trips without any mishaps.

Waze 100%

I recommended it to a family member who works in delivery and it has made their job so much easier that it’s incredible.

I used to use Google maps exclusively.

After Apple rolled out updates to their maps I started an experiment when traveling with my wife with my Google maps and her Apple Maps running at same time. Google used to be much more accurate, but since the Apple revamp, directions are accurately right on top of each other with information when you’re driving; including lane assistance.

i’ve never used Waze, so I can’t comment on that.

I value my privacy, I now use Apple Maps exclusively.

The one thing everybody forgot to mention is when using Google maps you give up privacy.

If you were having issues before perhaps your city wasn’t updated they just finished updating the US recently. And have been very progressive all over the world. If you haven’t used it or haven’t been using it because you use Google maps, You may want to give Apple Maps a try again, you’ll be impressed.

This is definitely me. I'd rather have a less stressful drive that takes longer.

One thing that annoys me about Waze is why do they even have a Reduce Difficult Intersections option if it still routes me to a left turn at a stop sign where the cross street is super busy with no stop signs.

Waze is the best, hands down. Google bought it some years ago, and now it has started integrating some of its features into google maps. Still, Waze wins.
