best mario ever?

wow i got super mario galaxy and it is one sweet game. this coming from someone who hates games other than sports and racing games for the most part as they take too much thinking and too long to beat. i love how this one includes all the bad guys and a lot of elements from the prev games aka flying ships, sewers, goombahs and everything...even the music! heck sm64 didnt have pipes!

my question is what are your favorite mario games of all time in order

mine are

1) super mario world for snes......such a good game
2) super mario galaxy for wii..mihgt be my new fav after i play it more
3) sm64
4) sm3
5) super mario
6) sm 2......cool game just way diff as everyone knows
7) sm sunshine.i hated this game with a passion so stupid imo

New Super Mario (or whatever the DS one is called)

That first Mario for the old school Gameboy
Super Mario 2
Mario 64
Sunshine

Can you tell I'm not a huge fan of 3d marios .

If we're adding in the Paper Mario series they'd be in above the Gameboy Mario with the 64 or Super NES one (can't remember which it arrived on first) as the top and then Wii and then Cube. The RPG would be under these as the story isn't good at all and there's a big lack of mario like gameplay.

I think the series as a whole is tremendous and even though Sunshine is on the bottom of the list; I still rate it better than 99% of the games I've played.

Even though Galaxy is my last, i still enjoyed it a TON. ITs just last on my list.

Those of you who have not play my Number One need to. Trust me, it is one of the best games ever. It has a good story, great gameplay, loads of secrets, you will not be disappointed.

While a bit OT, my boys got "Sonic and Mario at the Olympic Games" for Christmas and it's a lot of fun even though it's not a traditional Mario or Sonic game... You might enjoy it given your penchant for sports games.

Since the Wii is the first real console I've ever owned, I've only ever really played SPM and SMG since the early days of playing "Donkey Kong" in arcades and the original NES games at friends' houses.

I'm also fond of the 64 version also. Haven't played the later ones after 64 though
