Hey all,

Just got the new mac - havent been on one since 1997

Anyway - i have all of these old windows movies - one in perticular DeafKaraoke.wmv that i cant open

Quicktime seems to take a crap when you try and open avi files too

will Windows media player handle all of these - or is there an alternative

thanks

vlc will handle some of that stuff. with windows media is still the best to handle windows format.

WMP won't open a lot of WMV or AVI files for me.

I have:

  • QuickTime Player
  • Windows Media Player
  • Real Player
  • Video LAN Client

You might also want to try mplayer for Windows media files.

No opensource player can play all Windows Media files. If you want to play .wmv files, you should download Microsoft's Windows Media Player 9 for MacOS X. It will play all .wma audio and .wmv video except Windows Media 10 format stuff. To play WM 10 on the Mac, you need Virtual PC and Windows Media Player 10.
