I want to take my original copies of pictures from my trips (direct off the memory card), and compress them into a well archived file. Essentially I won't be accessing these files unless I for some reason in the near future need to have access to the original image. Mac's archiver doesn't compress my sets of pictures (and other files) very much. I'm looking for a different compressing software or technique that will significantly compress the data. Suggestions?

You can compress with Stuffit...

I assume that your digital photographs are in JPEG (*.jpg) format. This is a compressed format. You cannot significantly compress your images any further unless you downsample them.
